LOWELL - For the 3 hours and 24 minutes that it took No. 4 Gloucester to defeat No. 7 St. John’s Prep, 8-7, in the Division 1 North final last night, LeLacheur Park was more than just a baseball diamond - it was hardball Bizarro World.

The Fishermen (20-4) walked 14 batters, hit three and committed a balk, but Prep (18-6) responded by leaving 14 men on base and didn’t score in a top of the seventh that opened with the first five batters reaching base, one of three failures with the bases loaded on the evening.
