As things turned out, the NFL was a good training ground for Mark Bavaro’s second career. If you want to be a novelist, you need to learn about rejection.

The Danvers native was a two-time Pro Bowl tight end with the New York Giants between 1985-90, starring on their Super Bowl XXI and XXV teams before a degenerative knee condition led them to tell him he was finished at the same time they were urging him to keep playing.

Mark is a class act. I've known him for years, and wish him nothing but the best.

Good one Ron. Thanks for sharing an interesting story with some real good insight. IMO it's helpful in understanding the game to try to, as best we can, see the league from the shoes of the guys who do and have played it. Mr Bavaro seems like a real thoughtful and honest guy. I wish him the best. I wish we saw more stories like this...I mean how many times can you write about cover 2? Thanks again. Like most things in life it's the people that are compelling (some people anyway). Not the chalkboard.
