Three former Red Sox players - outfielders Jason Bay and Rocco Baldelli and reliever Billy Wagner - officially filed for free agency yesterday, the first possible day they could do so.

As many as six others could file in the coming days.

Get the draft picks for Wagner and let the other 2 go.

Give JBay the 4 years Theo...remember how you said when you traded for him that in the free agent class of 2009/2010 he would be the highest rated left fielder out there...well he's right under your nose...make it happen. Not like Theo reads these comments, however he did say that!

From what I've been able to garner through all the rhetoric and side bar talk so far it sounds like the Sox are willing to go to 4 years. Though Bay is seeking 5 and that may be the reason that he leaves.Unless he's willing to take a deal for an option year with a low ball buyout clause.

Boz if he leaves he leaves, the sox like all the other teams except NY have to cut the pie carefully .I hope he stays 35 (roidless) taters is not easy to replace ,but there is only so much dough to go around.I guess 4 at 15 with a buyout option for a 5th is really as high as the sox should go.I see other teams offering more the yankees like to double whammy us by signing a stud from our team.ouch it does take a year or two to make up such a gap and we already have to make up last years gap too. In a real world situation the yanks would be regulated to minor moves after last years splurge ,but they are the Yanks so watch out.

Here starts the 20 year slide. My kids will have kids before the sox see the playoffs again. This years 1st round and out is the beginning
because there are too many better and younger teams on the rise right now. It has been great but get ready for those painful Augusts of the past.

Is it possible that because he fits in so well, is a quality individual and hits a lot of HRs that we are overrating Bay. I like the guy, but he's always been a streak hitter, he strikes out an awful lot and is below average defensively. This isn't to say he's not an asset. But $17 million a year for 4 years (forget 5) seems a little steep. I'd probably do it given the alternatives out there (Holliday 5/18 and dealing with slimedog Boras) but it's far from a no brainer.
BTW, Hermida is a nice pickup. Low cost, low risk, high upside. There is a reason he was a first round pick, but he hasn't put it all together yet due mainly to injuries. At 25 he may yet turn the corner. Probably goodbye Baldelli who is 3 years older.

I'm willing to assume you're not serious. Because if you are you are one badly misguided individual.

boblit after careful reconsideration,I don't think Jason Bay is coming back unless he accepts Theo's previous offer. I am now in the belief that another power hitting LF'er will be in LF on opening day unless as I just stated Bay decides to accept Theo's terms.I know who the replacement is going to be if that is the case..I've emailed meatballsub111 who will verify my suspicion, when it happens.

Don't you just hate it when players get pressure from the MLBPA to hold their team hostage, yeah me too, that's how payrolls get escalated. I didn't see the Yankees in that short list of Bay watchers BTW, so don't blame the SteinBros for this. Hey if you want to be a playa in the big Boy East you have to shop at Tiffany's not Wall Mart. Make your dough Jason, if not Henry is just gonna line his greedy pockets, the Redsox have sold out how many games in a row, and we live in a society where supply and demand rules.
