Ex-Marlin Jeremy Hermida reeled in by Red Sox
The Red Sox made what general manager Theo Epstein called a “value trade” in acquiring 25-year-old outfielder Jeremy Hermida from the Marlins in exchange for left-handers Hunter Jones and Jose Alvarez yesterday.
The 11th overall pick in 2002, Hermida’s abilities have yet to develop to the Marlins’ expectations. In addition, there was the potential for his $2.25 million salary in 2009 to increase in his second year of arbitration eligibility.

The Yanks get #27. The Sox get Jeremy Hermida. Sounds about right.
Jeremy Hermida... Order the rings for 2010!!
I hope this isn\'t Jason Bay\'s replacement.
I hope this isn\'t Jason Bay\'s replacement.
Jeremy Hermida has been a bust since being called up by the Marlins...I've watched him play for 4 years down here...A one word discription of Hermida...Lousy.
He is not the missing piece to the puzzle, but he can be a piece to the puzzle. At worst he is an upgrade as 4th outfielder and can play for a while due to injury. At best he may play up to his potential. That being said we need to sign Bay or Holliday and still add another bat
You clowns sound like you want the Sox to spend like he Yanks.....here's a newsflash: They can't. Get over it.
Oh, no. Here we go again ! As Theo said, picking up Jeremy Hermida at \"a reasonable cost to see if he can fulfill his potential for us\" - a \"value trade\" - sounds all too familiar to me. If I read one more time that the Sox have signed a low cost, low risk, high potential, bargain on the market I\'m going to throw up !! If Theo doesn\'t make some impact moves and signings over the winter, our Sox will have no shot at catching the \"evil\" Yankees in 2010. Hey, Theo. Stay out of the bargain basement !! Listen to the nation. Please.
Baldelli's replacement, that's all. Like EVERYTHING else in this world, you get what you pay for. Enough of trying to sell us retreads, Theo - Get some top shelf talent here pronto. You're starting to look like that fool JP Riccardi.
