Papelbon packs away franchise record
BALTIMORE - Jonathan Papelbon dropped down to one knee and unzipped the overnight bag laid out in front of his locker. Shifting some items aside, he spotted the faded, game-used baseball in the front, left-hand corner.
Smiling, he now placed yet another faded, game-used baseball next to the first one, and then he closed the case.

Guess you had to hold this story an extra day because of the Dancing Fool's meltdown the night before.
Saves are the biggest 'false' stat in baseball...Papeljerk may have a respectable total, but many of his 'saves' this year, are when he's coming into a 3 run game, gives up 2 runs and still gets the save.
He has been constantly missing locations on his pitches, other teams are hitting rockets on an almost daily occurance against him.
He is not the "same" Papelbon that we saw back in 2007.
Papelbon would be wise to spend more time in front of a VCR watching his myriad of mistakes rather than acting like John Kerry and continually looking for open microphones.

Not deny what you say is true ,but that is the nature of how a closer is used these days 9th inning he starts it no matter the score the real firemen are a thing of the past.Thank tony L for that.
Congrats Pap. Too bad he won't be here for the long haul.
When you enlist Boras as an agent, it's a foregone conclusion you wont sign early. At least this makes it easy for the Sox brass to groom Bard as the next closer!

BTW - story in the globe said he has tweaked his delivery to lessen the strain on his shoulder. That might account for some of his 'struggles' He's still one of the best. He handles pressure well > see postseason era 0.00
Fabulous? Did Francona describe Pap's performance this year as fabulous? Is that like, "ludicrous speed"? Was he referring to a good, great, wonderful, marvelous, legendary, mythical or apocryphal kind of year? I think Paps performance is a just a little bit less than fabulous this year.
john kerry? microphones? the fool irnmdn67 might not like Paps personality but his stats are there so he must be doing something right. I think his problems are because he only has one "out" pitch - his fastball and if it doesn't have a lot of movement batters are going to catch up with it. He needs to develop that cutter or sinker or whatever he's working on to throw off the batters timing. Not bad for a one-trick pony though.
