BALTIMORE - A month shy of the one-year anniversary of his arrival in Boston, Jason Bay finds himself in the midst of his first actual slump as a member of the Red Sox.

Bay set a career high with five strikeouts yesterday, leaving him 0-for-15 with nine strikeouts for the series and capping a forgettable three-city road trip that saw him go 6-for-36, dropping his average to .262 - the lowest since the fourth game of the season, when he was at .250.

Bay is settling in to what he is. A 270 avg 20-25 HR 90-100 RBI guy. Far from the superstar money a lot of people were about to throw at him a month ago.

Well, to be fair to Jason Bay, he is a career .282 hitter and has hit 29 homers only once in his career. Bay is a solid player, but he is no Manny Ramirez. Speaking of Manny, he is soon to lead the LA Dodgers to another round of playoffs.

I say give Bay a couple of days off! It does wonders for an athlete, but as the above bloggers state, he is no Manny, and not one you would call a "Slugging outfielder." Just a little above above average outfielder, and not worth big dollars. That is my opinion. When a man strikes out five (5) consecutive times, you don't keep playing him. Couple of days off and a switch in the batting order.
