’09 champions built for a long run
NEW YORK - What the New York Yankees accomplished during the 2009 postseason was not one of those feel-good, pinch-me-I’m-dreaming baseball love stories.
When they put the Philadelphia Phillies out of their misery in Game 6 of the World Series Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium, it was not the culmination of a Cinderella season. It was not a 21st century, Tri-State version of the Impossible Dream.

enough yankee stories please...arod, jeter, pettite, rivera, posada, matsui, damon will all be 35 or older next year so i dont see a long run for this group...they signed the 2 best free agents, how much of a genius GM do you have to be?...i couldve recommended that
seems the bosox writers have more sense and logic than the fans of the red sux. thank u writers for your 2 great articles. the only excuse for failure, is not trying hard enough for success. the yankees strive for it every year, and that's what u want out of a team you spend money to see and root for.
keep plastering the articles with Yankee stories, maybe john Henry will get the message, maybe the fans will get the message, and hold Henry's feet to the fire.
Great article Buck. Cashman has also developed players as well. Chamberlain, Hughes will be in the rotation next year, almost all of the bullpen is home grown and position players like Melky, Gardner, Cano are coming through with Austin Jackson on the horizon. Great season.
Buckley you are dillusional....there\'s no credit here to a Yankees front office which operates in a broken system. Did they cheat? Absolutely not, but they outspent the Sox by $80M!!! There is almost as big a gap between NY and the #2 spending team as there is between the 2nd and 30th teams. How much brain power did it take to sign Sabathia, Burnett and Texeria??
The Yankee front office has not developed very much major league talent that past decade and all they have done is spend, spend, spend. The first wave with Mussina, Giambi, etc. didn\'t work. The 2nd wave did....wow. Congrats on being able to sign a check.

How much did the Sox spend in 2007? Answer $194 mil ($143 mil plus $51 posting fee for Dice K). How much was the Rockies payoll in 2007? Answer $54 mil. Hmm, that's like $140 mil difference.
Oh yeah, that Rockies team that got swept....sounds about right to me. Best the NL had to offer, gratz to them
The 8th ring of Dante's hell is reserved for hypocrite Sox fans who complain about the Yanks' spending. If you're #2 in spending, then you need to shut the F up. If you're at the median or below, then maybe you can open your trap. The Sox made Dice K the best-paid pitcher on the planet. How'd that work out? Sayonara, losers.
