MADISON, Wis. — President Barack Obama challenged states today to get their education policies in line with his administration’s priorities if they want a chance at $5 billion in grants.

"If you’re willing to hold yourselves more accountable, if you develop a strong plan to improve the quality of education in your state, we’ll offer you a grant to help make that plan a reality," Obama said while speaking at a Wisconsin middle school.

Note the implied attempt to redefine full employment as being 10%.

As I posted on another article earlier, I'd like to know why all public schools aren't held to the same standards as charter and private schools? Isn't lowering the standards and requirements in the public schools the same as telling the kids it's ok to fail or that we don't value you as much.

As for an official of this administration determining where the money goes, I won't be shocked when the money goes only to states that he won in the last election and that most of it goes to the usual "administrative costs"

Think the kids are coming out of school dumb? Look for the union label on their diplomas.

The price those schools receiving \"grants\" from the taxpayers should wave a red flag in front of administrators. In this administration as Marxists taking money defines itself as owing something to Obama as several banks discovered. There is a misstatement where Obama indicated the administration has presently no control over schools. This is not true. If schools receive money from the feds in schoollunch programs those schools must conform to federal guidelines within their curriculum including
teaching homesexuality, sex education and many other federal intrusions. The money is not free. Intentionally.

first of all, the federal government has no constitutional authority to decide anything about local school taxation. Local schools are just that: local. I don't want to fight a 'states rights' argument again. The charter school movement is fueled by Sallie Mae, Teach for America, the Aspen Institute ( incidentally Henry Louis Gates is on the Board of directors of Aspen and Walter Issacson is head of Aspen)

if we liked the way we were defrauded by Wall street then you will love the takeover of public schools by henry Louis Gates and similar fakes. I think we will be in civil unrest if Obama does not stop taking apart this constitutional and this country.

That's the same for both parties, just ask the survivors in New Orleans about how the government treated them after Katrina. States that didn't support Bush got screwed.
