A three-alarm blaze raged through the former Merrimack Paper Co. in Lawrence last night, engulfing one of its buildings in flames but injuring no one, officials said.

The fire burned so intensely at the Canal Street facility that firefighters were ordered out of the structure, but they continued to battle the blaze from the outside. The city’s fire department requested help from several nearby communities. Lawrence Police Chief John J. Romero said it appears no one was injured in the fire, which continued to burn into the night.
