A man in his early to mid-20s was shot to death yesterday in Mattapan, and two men were spotted by witnesses fleeing the area, police said.

The murder is the city’s first this month and comes amid an overall slowdown in street crime, with this year’s murder rate in its fourth year of decline. Including yesterday, there have been 41 murders so far this year, down from 49 by this time last year.
