Firefighter union president vows to keep up fight vs. administration

ShareAfter waging a bruising, all-or-nothing campaign against Mayor Thomas M. Menino, nobody had more on the line than Boston Firefighters Local 718 president Edward Kelly, who said he’s prepared to fight four more years if he has to.
Meanwhile, as he waited for results yesterday, Kelly said, “I see Tom Menino closing neighborhood firehouses. If Menino wins, we’re going to have to focus on educating the public, trying to make our job safer. That means we’re going to have to fight the Menino administration to keep the firehouses open.”

Eddy, you make Menino look like a rhodes scholar. If Mumbles closes the firehouses its only because you spend more time at the pubs. Drug testing should be mandatory for firemen and not a bargaining chip.

Report AbuseThe BFD has lost all credibility and respect, and they can thank Kelly for that. Changes need to be made within the BFD. Then you will see the respect restored.

Destroying the credibility of firefighters is one tough task but Ed Kelly has accomplished it.
kitty kat and his boys are a joke, maybe he was too drunk to realize he just needed to turn the handle of the door and that the fire house was never closed? just a theory
The sad thing is that Flaherty might have won if he had NOT made his fateful alliance with the Local 718. This election was more a referendum against the fire union than it was a victory by Mumbles. People are sick and tired of paying for drunk and drugged out firefighters to show up at their house in their time of need.

Face it...Menino is right. Drug testing is non-nogotiable. If you 2-day a week, injury prone, system abusing hacks don't like it find another job that pays all your medical and retirement expenses while you work your 'real' job.
You're even dumber than dumb. 2 days= 48hrs. You work maybe 40? I worked 2 jobs and pay DOUBLE what you pay into your "real" job. You can only thank Mumbles for everything we got from him. So you can continue your crying when he PAYS us for drug testing ( which we already have ) because he's paid the BPD and EMS for the same thing. You voted for Mumbles and you will not see any "Real" change. Just fluff.
