Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sen. Scott P. Brown’s campaign today turned down an invite to debate challenger Jack E. Robinson at the John F. Kennedy Library on Nov. 16, saying they object to the sponsors and the venue.

“They might as well invite us to the Democratic Party headquarters and let (Gov.) Deval Patrick ask the questions,” said Brown communications director Eric Fehrnstrom. “We want a debate with a neutral setting with an impartial and unprejudiced sponsor.”

A debate would between the two Republican candidates would definitely be a good thing, but the Brown campaign is absolutely right for declining this invite - both the venue and debate sponsors are completely inappropriate.

I wouldn't debate Robinson either if my opponent had no chance of winning.

Brown wants the debate to occur at the Wrentham Outlets immediately following his daughter's performance of the National Anthem with Gail Huff serving as the moderator.

Good move, Scott. It would be a losing proposition, like Mike Capuano debating Martha Coakley on the Howie Carr show.

Sounds to me like Brown is scared. Empty suits are always ducking debates.

Jack E. Robinson- I remember him from the last time he ran. He should have kept running, far away.

What is Scott afraid of? He should embrace this opportunity for free press time if nothing else.

Robinson should be grateful; he would only be embarrassed. Brown would only be wasting his time. talking to Robinson is futile.
