Comcast competes

After reading the article “Rival: Menino blocks FiOS From Hub” (Oct. 30) I felt compelled to respond to address the inaccurate claim that Verizon is the only provider with fiber-optics in its network when, in fact, Comcast has the largest advanced residential fiber-optic network in the country.

For years, Comcast has been using fiber-optics to deliver TV, high-speed Internet and phone services to our customers in Boston and in the 237 other communities we serve in Massachusetts. Because we piloted our next-generation digital network enhancement in Boston, customers have access to Internet speeds of up to 50 megabits per second, more than 100 high-definition channels, more than 50 Spanish-language channels, and other benefits of our digital platform.
