While the president is certainly an interesting subject, I have one very specific ethical issue with mandating that students read his book: Is it proper to expect parents, many of whom didn’t support Barack Obama in the election, to buy his book (“Hingham school assignment of Obama biography riles parents,” Sept. 2)? Realistically, how many students or their parents will opt to use the library? Besides how many copies are on hand at any given public library?
