Black leaders praise ‘extraordinary’ speech

Barack Obama’s speech on race relations impressed Bay State black leaders as historic and moving but at least one political analyst isn’t sure it will be enough to pull him out of the controversy around his own pastor’s volatile comments.

While Obama denounced some of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s inflammatory remarks about race, he said he “can no more disown” his longtime spiritual adviser than he can disown the black community or his white grandmother.
