DURHAM, N.H. - A new University of New Hampshire study says investigators who work on child pornography cases suffer mental health problems that influence their work and home lives.

The study by UNH’s Crimes Against Children Research Center found heavy exposure to hundreds of disturbing images of children being sexually victimized can take a toll. The study surveyed more than 500 investigators nationwide, more than half of whom were concerned about the psychological consequences of their work.

I don't believe this story, I believe that anyone who truly helps these victims would receive a lot of satisfaction over the fact that they truly make a difference in peoples/children's lives.IMHO only. Also not everyone's cut out for certain jobs as well. Like if you faint at the sight of blood you would not want to be a surgeon.

Why do you not believe it? Much like police officers and members of the military (who are exposed to images of violence the general public will never have to see), I am sure that investigators, having to sift through videos/photots/images of children being sexually assaulted/raped/molested/etc do bear some sort of mental scarring.

Yes, while some may not be cut out for the job, to think that the people doing it are not in any way affected by what they are seeing over the years, is silly.

My fathers generation saw everything in their teen age years in Germany and Japan. They made it through knowing they had a job to do that if it were not done would have been much worse for their loved ones and the world. We make excuses for everyone today, I worked in the juvenille justice system and saw a lot of negitive things however I also felt good about the positive things that I created and added to the world these kids lived in by truly making a difference in their lives. Not everyone is cut out for every job. The victims here are the children not the investigators. I would think there would be a lot of satisfaction bringing each one of these lowlife bastards they investigat to justice?
