WASHINGTON — House Democrats cleared the way Wednesday for a pivotal floor vote on health care overhaul as early as the weekend, after tweaking their 1,900-page bill to crack down harder on insurance companies.

"Americans are ready for comprehensive health insurance reform and the House will soon act," Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said in a statement that accompanied dozens of last-minute changes to the bill, released Tuesday night.

Let's all hope it's delayed until 3010. That works for me.

Some more great news! As 2010 is an election year, I can't imagine any of the moderate Dems are going to put their butts on the line for this slop.

You all should know that the auto insurance companies are screwing you as well. Did you know that you are getting charged a lot more to insure a Mercedes than a Honda civic. Hmmm. Maybe that's why health insurance is so expensive, because "health care" is so expensive. Health Insurance companies are operating at an average of 2 1/2% profit margin. How is more competition going to improve anything? Why is health insurance cheaper in some states than others? The cost of living is cheaper in some states than others. This makes the cost of labor, land, rent, and everything else cheaper in some states than other states. If you want your health insurance to cost less you must reduce the cost of the underlying health care. To the extent that the "health care reform" reduces the cost of health care it will reduce the cost of your health insurance. Please analyze any "reform" bills with this in mind. Obviously "rationing" will reduce the costs of individual health care, but is this what you would like for yourselves and your families? Why not reform the ridiculous medical malpractice situation, unneccessary defensive medicine, and paperwork inefficiencies. This would go a long way towards reducing the underlying costs of health care without dimishing the quality of your health care. Furthermore, does it make sense to pay for any health care bill by taxing health care? Why would you not tax unneccessary, luxury items like the entertainment industry. If fewer movies, CD's, etc., are made will anyone really suffer? How about if fewer preventitive drugs, pacemakers, and other medical machinery are manufactuered? Is this going to affect the quality of your health care?

In Mass, as far as car insurance goes, the reason it costs more if you have an expensive car is because the government completely controls the insurance companies. When anything ever goes wrong with your car insurance policy, and you call them, they tell you there is nothing they can do about it, and they are telling the truth. If this thing passes, we are looking at the same thing. The only way to make it better, is to eliminate government control. We do how ever need to help medical professionals with ridiculous law suits. The major problem is, not only is the medical insurance system broken, but so is everything else related to it. Ask your primary how much he charges you for a routine visit, it will make you sick. Most people don't think abut it because they only have to pay the co-pay, but the over all bill issued is outrageoue for anything they do.

Though the bill is estimated to expand coverage from the current 83 percent to 96 percent of legal U.S. residents, the windfall of projected penalty payments also exposes a potential contradiction in reform. A significant part of the plan to expand coverage relies financially on fines from the uninsured. (OK 1.3 trillion for a 15% gain - only in GOV is that a good deal) If the plan is so good then why would such a huge # of people take a penalty rather than sign up???????) Also the plan expects to fund its self on fines - sounds real good to me - Oh and PS could be unconstitutional to force Americans to have healthcare!!!! You libs recall that little thing called Freedom don’t you?

"The majority of Americans covered under big employer plans would not see dramatic changes." Way to parrot the Kool-Aid, Boston Herald. www.defendyourhealthcare.us
