Did you know childbirth was invented in Hollywood a couple of years ago?
All those women who have been producing children for thousands of years apparently have been doing it wrong.
“Platinum Babies” - WE tv’s kinder companion to its cringefest “Bridezillas” - stars parents who drop a bundle to celebrate their bundle of joy.
In the premiere at 9 p.m. (an additional episode follows at 9:30), “Insider” correspondent Victoria Recano and husband Tom, a real estate lender, prepare for the birth of their child with a posse that includes a nursery planner and two party planners.
“I’m told I have a bit of a type-A personality, which isn’t a bad thing,” Recano says.
Oh, you’ll be the judge of that.
Victoria is precise in what she wants for her unborn daughter, who bears the “code name” (a temporary one) of Coco. It all comes down to “specially designed, exclusive, high-end and customized.”
Forget about handmade or - don’t you even think it - hand-me-downs for this angel. At a baby boutique, one of Victoria’s servants informs her, “There’s the fun, super-high-end clothes, and there’s also the organic that you want to use around the house. Organic is super-high-end.”
Got that?
Victoria doesn’t blink at the thought of spending $120,000 for 60 gift bags at the baby shower.
The mixologist at the shower costs $5,000 and serves something called “preggatinis,” non-alcoholic martinis for moms-to-be.
The nursery includes a chandelier and silk sheets for the crib. A Feng Shui expert at $200/hour is brought in to give the place a blessing. “PlatinumBabies” documents a price tag for everything, except of course the cost of some quality mental help.
In the second episode, hairstylists Tara and Andrew look almost rational in comparison, despite their decision to hold multiple baby showers and spend more than $3,000 on a baby photographer.
If there’s any solace to be taken from this show, it’s that these couples probably will get the children they deserve.
Series premiere tonight at 9 on WE tv.
