“Full Circle” (Wind-up): B-

“Don’t give up on us,” Scott Stapp sings repeatedly on “Away in Silence,” “I’m not the man I used to be.” It’s comeback time for Creed, as the pseudo-grunge/hard-rock band releases its first new disc since 2001. Stapp’s kicked his bad habits and reconnected with Christianity, though he remains the brooding-yet-cocky rocker. Rest assured, friends and foes - Creed continues along the sub-Pearl Jam path it carved out a decade back. But “Full Circle” is heavier. There are plenty of brawny riffs, soaring vocals and decent hooks. If you didn’t know about Creed’s specious rep and heard this CD blind, you’d likely think it was a decent Nickelback album. Faint praise? Fair enough. Download: “Rain.”
