Runaway Train
Singer on track for Dusty Springfield fans
Sunday, November 15, 2009 -
In June, my Herald editor forwarded me an advance copy of Kristina Train’s debut. He sent it because I am a huge fan of the late Dusty Springfield and he thought the similarity in their voices might interest me.
In the past, I thought the singers Duffy and Shelby Lynne were Dusty-ish, but when I heard Kristina’s Blue Note album, I realized how far from her they really were. Springfield had such command of her voice that when she wanted to emphasize a lyric she could automatically adjust tonally and sing that part with more emphasis as opposed to sheer volume.
