Universal, $26.98, Blu-ray $39.98, with featurettes, commentary and deleted scenes, available Tuesday.: C

First the ponderously dull pilot for the upcoming prequel series “Caprica” and now “The Plan.” It’s as if the makers of “Battlestar Galactica” are trying to burn their fans.

On this direct-to-DVD product (but sure to air on Syfy shortly), pivotal events from the series are seen from the perspective of two Cylon No. 1s. Edward James Olmos (also Commander William Adama) doesn’t so much direct this film as cull clips from the series run and build new vignettes around them. Almost all the series regulars pop up, but stars Tricia Helfer, Grace Park and Michael Trucco carry the bulk of the new material. As the No. 1s plot to destroy humanity’s last survivors on both Battlestar and Caprica, their encounters with the Final Five Cylons threaten their mission and ultimately force one to endure a change of heart. In peeling back the layers, writer Jane Espenson makes the Cylons appear less like the dire threat they were in the series and more like bumblers. This is a film that ultimately diminishes “Battlestar Galactica’s” legacy. Recommended only for die-hard fans - with a masochistic streak.
