We spend so much time discussing what’s new on the Hub restaurant scene that we often ignore what’s old.

Can any other American city boast as many heritage restaurants as Boston? Restaurants where you can enjoy the kind of meal your great-great-great-grandparents enjoyed, in settings your forebears would be able to recognize today.

And don't forget the 99 Restaurant in Charlestown where you can go for a burger, coffee, and a shot & a beer. There's still a bullet hole in the infamous seat! Bada-Bing!

The Union Oyster House has turned into a tourist trap. After many years I had a meal there about a month ago and it was disgusting. The service was horrible and the place was dirty.

Nice column, Mat. Only historical question would be about milk in Paul Revere's chowder. No documentation for milk or even potatoes until about 50 years later. But coulda been.

Jacob Wirth's is a great restaurant to go to. It's clean. The food is good and the service is even better. I love the old mahogany bar with all its intricate carvings. Just a great place to relax and have a meal.

The Warren Tavern, tucked in the middle of the colonial section of Charlestown, is wonderful. The ambience is exactly how you described it. My only complaint is that the night my colleague and I went, the live music was blasting in the tight quarters, more so than it really needed to be. Just bring it down a bit and everything will still be fine.

The Warren Tavern is a great place to go for Sunday breakfast. My late husband and myself went quite often and a lot of times would bring people with us. The only thing though is the TV's that constantly play sports. All in all, a wonderful place for Sunday breakfast.

The Union Oyster House has gone downhill. Last time we were there was for hubby's birthday and then off to the Comedy Connection. Our server was very inattentive, when the food was finally brought to our table, we had to send it back it was so bad. Needless to say, we had no dinner, hubby had a slice of pizza and the Comedy Connection was wonderful. Night was not totally lost but I would never go to the Union Oyster House again.
