Hub Billboard Has Drivers Doing Doubletake
Posted by Mark Garfinkel at 7:04 am

A mannequin perched precariously on top of a billboard on Rte 93 near the Somerville/Boston line has caused at least a few emergency 911 calls and many more curious looks. Two calls were placed to Boston and Somerville fire departments regarding a possible suicidal man on top of a billboard yesterday morning. After hearing one of the calls on the police scanner, I went to investigate, with camera in hand. I found this “guy”, with his tie blowing in the wind. This looked liked a real guy when viewed from certain angles. The drive going northbound on ‘93 just after the Zakim was the most startling. Please view my photos below. **UPDATE: 9:30am…Mannequin jumped, err, was pushed, but is not on billboard anymore. Read more at bostonherald.com

flag wavers
Posted by Stuart Cahill at 5:24 pm

My assignment for last night was to illustrate that Harvard University can play night football games at Harvard Stadium. After a touchdown, the cheerleaders ran to the end zone to do celebratory push-ups. it looked like a good opportunity to make a pic, so i ran with them. it worked out well, the flag was back lit by the some what new lights.

Photographing From Your Airplane Seat.
Posted by Mark Garfinkel at 9:17 am

So you’re flying to that business meeting or dream vacation? If you’re like me, you choose a window seat near the wing and take along your camera.
In this case, I left my “pro” cameras behind and employed a Canon Powershot G-10. The occasion? A trip to San Francisco. While not listed as a professional camera, the G-10 is compact and does a nice job. Please checkout my photos below. A word to the wise, wipe clean that window..and then wash your hands! The first photo shows Nahant just moments after takeoff. The second photo is Marblehead harbor. The third is a beautiful sunrise just west of Cleveland while flying on the dreaded “red-eye”, early morning flight. The last photo shows landing on return to Boston.

Hmmmm! this looks like fun!

as a photographer, we have to cover stories no matter what the weather. last week, i covered the Red Sox when the heavens opened up for us. there was a one hour delay in the game as the fans ran for cover of any kind. these two fellers seemed to find a piece of cardboard ample shelter.

a night of firsts
Posted by Stuart Cahill at 3:07 pm

well, last night was interesting at the Red Sox-White Sox game. i saw a couple of things that caught me off guard. first off, there was Nick Green pitching. i think they put him in for his fear factor. he can throw in the 90’s, but his strike percentage was in the low 30’s. he kinda had trouble finding home plate. Kevin Youkilis seemed to enjoy the moment though.

the second incident was david cassidy. ok, that national anthem was a little too heart felt….the strutting around with the mike killed me. it was a little too schmaltzy.

so, all in all, it was a pretty interesting night!
