Seattle!

We made it!
It’s been a series of unfortunate events since we’ve arrived in the Emerald City. You can read all about it in Thursday’s Herald.
Anybody ever been to Seattle? To be quite honest, we’ve moved here without ever having visited. Anyone have a suggestion on where to visit, eat, or take the dog?
It’s beautiful here and the people are so nice it’s shocking! We are living in the University District, near the University of Washington.

Gone, but not forgotten
Posted by Dawn Witlin at 3:02 pm

I am sad to report that the 1986 Chevy Mobile Traveler, a.k.a. “The Mystery Noise,” has been retired as our mode of transportation.
With the muffler gone and numerous failed starts, we were too rattled to en devour any further with the clinking, clattering and spurring motor home.
Curt’s parents in California plan to fix up the M.T. and sell it someday. It now sits in their backyard.
We packed up what we could into Curt’s grandmother’s Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight, which still drives like a dream and has air conditioning, and embarked to Seattle.

Not for Sale
Posted by Dawn Witlin at 11:39 pm

Amid a cluster of wood carving stands, also in Orick, Calif., Curt and I stopped by to snap a photo of the most impressive carving I have ever seen in this castle.
The shopkeep, who had to help other customers so I didn’t get his name, said the castle was carved from a local Redwood tree. The woodworking artist said the project took he and a few friends about three months to complete.
This piece was the only one in his collection labeled “Not for Sale.”

A retired mobile traveler

In Ukiah, Calif., we spotted this version of the Mystery Noise.
The brand name is the same, but this bad boy was meant to be hauled.

Coolest fruit stand ever
Posted by Dawn Witlin at 1:39 pm

The caliber of character in those who call Avenue of the Giants home is justly exemplified by the self weigh and pay fruit stand we found just north of Garberville, Calif.
Who trusts people enough to leave a fresh produce stand unattended, stocked with blueberry popsicles, lemon cucumbers, zucchini and more?
Would this work anywhere in the Hub?
